Some of my highlights
My Experience
Prior to joining Basic Business Concepts, Alan was the CFO/Controller for Research Organics a manufacturer of chemicals primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. During that time he totally redesigned their standard cost system enabling the company to focus on their higher profit products and customers and allocate plant time better to grow profitability substantially. This led to an unsolicited buyout offer from Sigma Aldrich which the owners eventually accepted. He continued to work for the new owners for another two years before leaving.
Before joining Research Organics Alan ran his own consulting firm for 10 years serving as the part-time controller for a number of small and mid- size privately held companies in a variety of manufacturing and service industries . During this time he worked with Sales staff to negotiate Long Term Supply agreements for an aircraft parts manufacturer, chose and installed numerous accounting software packages (Peachtree, MAS 90, etc.), revise job costing systems and introduced a budgeting process.
Alan has also worked with banks to secure both commercial loans and with governmental agencies to obtain tax breaks for expansion.
Besides his work experience he teaches both Managerial and Cost Accounting at the University of Akron and at Cuyahoga Community College.
Alan has both a BS and MBA from Cornell University and also holds a CMA certification.
